The parliamentary groups of the German Bundestag spread unverified and false information in a statement regarding the ongoing processes in Georgia.
In particular, the statement claimed that the long-term monitoring mission of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe had not been allowed to Georgia during the parliamentary elections held on October 26.
In fact, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) opened an election observation mission in Georgia one month before the parliamentary elections.
The organisation also published information about this on its official website on September 12, 2024.
“The mission is headed by Eoghan Murphy and consists of a core team of 12 international experts based in Tbilisi and 30 long-term observers, who will be deployed throughout the country from 19 September. ODIHR will request 350 short-term observers to arrive several days before election day”, the OSCE/ODIHR statement said.
The statement further added that “observers will closely monitor all key aspects of the elections, including developments before and after election day”.
The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also met with representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission before the parliamentary elections, where it was noted that the election environment was free and competitive, which was also confirmed by the report published by OSCE/ODIHR.
