Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday reaffirmed his Government's commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and development within the country.

Speaking to journalists, the Prime Minister emphasised that peace and stability were paramount for Georgia’s well-being.

“We are responsible for maintaining peace, stability, and development in Georgia. The most important good is peace and stability”, the PM said.

The Prime Minister also addressed the domestic Transparency Law, asserting that it safeguards the state from extremism and revolutions. He contended that the term ‘Russian law’ used to describe the legislation was a "lie".

“The Transparency Law protects our state from extremism and revolutions. The entire society has come to understand that the term ‘Russian law’ was a lie. This law fully complies with international standards, including human rights, and it protects our country from destabilisation”, Kobakhidze continued.

He further emphasised that foreign funding “should not be used to incite revolutionary processes in Georgia”.

“Funds such as those from the EU, the National Endowment for Democracy, and USAID - the latter being a former American foundation abolished by the Trump administration - must not be used to promote revolutionary movements in Georgia”, the Prime Minister concluded.

The Parliament of Georgia on Wednesday approved Mamuka Mdinaradze as the new Head of the State Security Service. The vote took place during a plenary session of Parliament, with 85 members supporting his candidacy and none voting against.

Prior to the vote, Mdinaradze’s nomination was reviewed by the Parliament's Defence and Security Committee in a closed-door session.

The position became vacant on August 23 when Anri Okhanashvili resigned as the head of the SSSG. Following this, Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze nominated Mamuka Mdinaradze for the role.

According to Imedi TV, following Mdinaradze's appointment to the Security Service, Irakli Kirtskhalia is expected to lead the Georgian Dream faction and the parliamentary majority.
