Georgian Gov’t Administration Head, US Department of State representative discuss Georgian Gov’t’s steps to strengthen transit, connectivity roles
Steps taken by the Georgian Government to strengthen the country’s transit and connectivity functions were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between Levan Zhorzholiani, the Head of the Georgian Government Administration, and Jonathan Askonas, a representative of the United States Department of State.
Zhorzholiani provided the US side with information about the major investments the Government of Georgia is making in railway, road, and port infrastructure to develop these functions.
The Head of the Government Administration noted that the Georgian Government was not satisfied with the current level of relations with the United States and once again confirmed its readiness to renew the strategic partnership from a clean slate and with a clear roadmap.
The meeting also discussed Georgia’s position regarding the so-called Trump Route.
It was noted that the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) could have a potentially positive effect on the region in terms of the security guarantees provided by the US side for the movement of cargo.
The meeting also focused on the importance of efforts by the Trump administration to establish peace in the region.
Georgia’s role in the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan was also positively assessed.

Georgian Parliament Speaker says international order no longer exists amid US exit from global organisations

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday commented on the United States’ withdrawal from dozens of international organisations, saying that this once again confirms what the Georgian Government has been saying - that the international order no longer exists.
“When we assess the process as a whole, the fact that the United States has exited 66 organisations in itself once again confirms what we have been saying - that the international order created after World War II, which includes membership in various international organisations and the discussion of issues within their frameworks, no longer exists and has been disrupted”, the Speaker said.
He noted that when the United States withdraws from such organisations and justifies its decision by labeling them as ineffective and wasteful, it inevitably undermines their credibility and seriousness.
“When the United States is not a member of such organisations and leaves them with the justification that they are useless and wasteful, this naturally shows that their credibility has already been called into question”, he continued.
He emphasised that the US decision once again supports the view that the existing international order has effectively ceased to function.
