We are proud that through joint efforts with the private sector, we have achieved an unprecedented growth dynamic in civil aviation - Mariam Kvrivishvili
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili congratulated the company TAV Airports on its 20th anniversary of operations in Georgia. Speaking at an event held at Tbilisi International Airport, the Minister thanked the company’s management, local team, and employees for their work in strengthening Georgia’s aviation sector.
“The aviation industry and civil aviation play the most important, key role in the development of our country’s economy. We are proud today because together we are witnessing an unprecedented growth dynamic in the aviation industry, in civil aviation. We were able to achieve this through joint efforts, the right strategy, vision, action plan, and its joint implementation. Our cooperation is a very good and successful example of collaboration between the private and public sectors” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said.
Mariam Kvrivishvili noted that for the first time in Georgia, over 70 international airlines currently operate on more than 120 direct routes. This is the result of a strategy based on a diversification policy and is already reflected in the data on passenger traffic and direct flights, including those to Europe. According to the Minister, of the over 120 destinations served from Georgia’s three international airports, approximately 37% were to European destinations during the first 8 months of the current year.
“European countries are of outstanding, strategic importance for our country in terms of attracting tourism and direct flights. This is a tangible result of a consistent policy. Together, we were able to bring global brands like British Airways and EasyJet to Georgia at the end of last year. This has added new, sustainable, and rapidly growing direct routes to the country, which generate additional tourist flows with purchasing power. This, in turn, is directly reflected in the creation of new jobs within as well as outside the airport, which is very important and increases the country’s budget revenues” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the diversification policy is based on sound marketing campaigns and infrastructure projects. This complex work was reflected in the record revenue of 4,4 billion USD from the tourism industry in 2024.
“This year is also particularly successful – revenues from tourism are at a record high, as is the growth dynamic of tourist flows. In 2025, passenger traffic data has already exceeded a record 5,6 million. Our government continues to support large-scale infrastructure projects that serve the development of the country’s transport sector” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.
Representatives of the diplomatic corps, aviation sector, TAV Airports and Groupe ADP participated in the event.
